The Writer

Kevin Cookson B.Sc., PGCE.

On leaving University Kevin took a job as an electrical engineer in the aerospace industry. Some years later a group of friends started their own company called 'Advanced Music Systems', and he was invited to join them. As the business developed, amongst other duties he became their technical author, writing manuals for their products. This fostered an interest in writing which eventually led to the publication of his first book 'The Trouble With Clouds'.

During this time and whilst working closely with Social Services he became aware of a distinct shortfall in children’s nurseries in the North West of England. With his wife Christine and some friends he started a number of nurseries in the area. During those years he and his wife adopted five children and fostered well over a hundred more.

Besides writing and his work with children he is also an accomplished gutarist and songwriter. He has played guitar for what he considers are some of the best singers in the UK: James Donaldson, Charlie Landsborough and James Loynes. As regards his songs? Pippa:

The idea of Pippa had been in Kevin's mind for quite some time but he didn't know of an illustrator and the Pippa books would require a really good illustrator. A chance meeting with Gordon solved that problem and the pair have never looked back.
